"Pudsey finds his voice: A landmark moment to support children across the UK"
BBC article that explains BBC Children in Need mascot Pudsey will, for the first time, be talking in a new 30 second film (premiered on the One Show).
In psychotherapy with children, play is a key tool that helps the therapist understand what the state of the child's mind is and what are their preoccupations and anxieties. We use toys like dolls and doll houses or animal or dinosaur models and witness the child's play (sometimes playing with them, but always led by them). This is a gentle way to learn about the child's mind.
In parent + child psychotherapy (where both or all three are in the room together for the therapy) it is amazing how the child's play so often cues the adult conversations and moves the discussions into areas we need to think about. Play is a route to the unconscious mind and its importance was understood and has been written about by many Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists over the past century, perhaps most especially by D.W Winnicott (Paediatrician and Psychoanalyst).
