Dominic Regan - Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist
Professional trainings:
After successfully completing a BSc in Government and Politics I worked as a research assistant in the Houses of Parliament. Following this I travelled for a time in Africa and worked on a nature reserve in Tanzania. In 1993 I began training on the PGCE at the Institute of Education, London University and then worked as a primary teacher.
I began a Foundation Certificate in Psychotherapy at the Central School of Counselling and Therapy in 1995. This comparative course examined Psychodynamic, Existential, Person-Centered and Cognitive Therapies.
In 1996 I began training at Birkbeck college, London University on the three year MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling, working with adults in university settings around London.
In 2003 I began the MA in The Psychodynamics of Human Development, at the British Association of Psychotherapists, which led on to the four year doctoral level training in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, at the British Association of Psychotherapists (now IPCAPA > BPF). I completed the training in 2008. Since then I have worked as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist in Child and Adolescent Mental Health services (CAMHS) across London; and in senior roles since 2011 - and now a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist responsible for the Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy discipline in a UK County (covering nine CAMHS clinics).
I have also managed and led a Children Looked After Team in one London CAMHS, which has included extensive consultation, supervision and training to Social Workers and their managers; as well as consultation to teachers, residential keyworkers, foster carers and Social Work Teams. I have written and delivered trainings on mental health issues for a variety of audiences. I have worked psychotherapeutically with children and adults in a range of ways including 1:1 psychotherapy, parent/child psychotherapy, long and short-term models, over many years.
I have a particular interest and specialism in developmental trauma; and in Looked After Children.
